Project Description
This old Jewish district takes a significant role in Harbin’s early construction history. Especially, music was their crucial culture, which accelerates their settlement and development in China. Nowadays, this cultural heritage degenerated, also less cultural consumption. The Jewish historical remains are less famous compared to others such as the Middle Street on the east side. This project is to design a multifunctional music hall, which enlarges the commercial sphere from the main street and for citizen’s daily using cultural space.
There were two main problems to be concentrated: lacking musical content and the relationship with two existent buildings on the site. To solve it, added variety of related functions such as music hall, educational hall, instrument stores, and convenience. Also, a free and organic atmosphere of the building let people enjoy it on an ordinary day. Furthermore, a fluent curvy shape of the overall mass harmonizes well with the unique Russian style building (arches and dome).
